Powered by four golfers who finished in the top 10, the University of Alabama claimed the team championship at Vanderbilt University’s Mason Rudolph Collegiate. The Tide bested the field of 12 which included five Southeastern Conference teams. Alabama shot 281-273-285/839 to finish one under par, its second under par team finish in a season only two tournaments old. Virginia finished second (840), followed by Ole Miss (843), North Carolina State (845), North Carolina and Georgia State (851), Vanderbilt (852), Mississippi State (858), Kentucky (867), Rice (871), Florida State (879) and Central Florida (894).
Four of Alabama’s five golfers finished in a tie for tenth place in the individual standings. Nick Rousey (67-67-77/211), Clint Provost (73-69-69/211), Mac Butler (71-67-73/211) and, in his first tournament back after taking a redshirt season last year Austin Hynson (70-70-71/211) all ended the tournament at one under par. Lars Brovold finished tied for 22nd (73-70-72/215), a finish that sealed one of the best collective team individual showings in memory as all five Alabama golfers finished among the top 25.
Mississippi State’s Codie Mudd won the tournament in a playoff against Virginia’s Steve Marino. Mudd shot 64-67-69/200 which was ten under par.
