In what was its first “down” finish of a season nine tournaments old, Alabama finished 14th of 16 at the Las Vegas Collegiate held March 8-10, 2002 at the Southern Highlands Golf Course in Las Vegas.
Georgia Tech won the tournament (844) followed in finish by UNLV (863), North Carolina State (865), Clemson (867), Georgia (872), Florida and TCU (875), Arizona and Houston (877), Ohio State (892), Oklahoma State (894), Arizona State (895) New Mexico (895), at 14th ALABAMA (308-291-307/906), Air Force (917) and Kent State (934).
Troy Matteson of Georgia Tech finished eight under par to win the individual championship (70-69-69/208). Alabama’s finishes found Clint Provost at T-51st (75-72-79/226), Lars Brovold T-54th (76-74-77/227), Jan Are Larsen T-58th (79-75-75/229), T-58th Nick Rousey (78-75-76/229) and Austin Hynson T-69th (82-70-81/233).
