
Tide's Provost First Round Leader at Dixie Amateur

POMPANO BEACH, FLA. – Clint Provost, a senior golfer at the University of Alabama, is the first round leader at one of the nation’s oldest amateur golf events, the 74th annual Dixie Amateur.
The Gulf Breeze, Fla., native shot 65 in Sunday’s opening round at the Palm-Aire Country Club, making seven birdies, including three in a row beginning at the eighth hole. One of those birdie putts was a 30-footer on the 10th hole.
Provost goes into Monday’s second round three strokes ahead of Jay Reynolds of Austin, Texas, who shot 68 in Sunday’s opening round.
Some of professional golf’s brightest stars are among the past champions of this event which continues through December 22. Past champions of the Dixie Amateur include Lanny Wadkins (1971), Andy Bean (1975), Hal Sutton (1978 and 1979), Jesper Parnevik (1985) and Bruce Fleisher (1969).
