Tide's Alverio Opens with 75 at World Amateur

TUSCALOOSA ?? The World Amateur Team Championships began with first round play Thursday in Stellenbosch, South Africa, where University of Alabama golfer Max Alverio is among the three-man team competing for Puerto Rico.
The junior from Humacao,
Canada, led by Richard Scott, an All-American and senior at the University of Georgia in 2006, shot a five-under-par 139 to build a two-stroke lead over Netherlands (141) to take the first round lead.
The tournament includes 72 holes and is being played through Sunday at Stellenbosch Golf Club.
