TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?? The Alabama Gymnastics team, in the midst of preseason training, is having an extra busy week.
Saturday finds head coach Sarah Patterson and the 2007 Crimson Tide signing autographs and greeting fans on the Quad from noon to 1 p.m. before Alabama’s Homecoming game against Florida International. The Tide will be giving out uniquely designed team photos, as well as “Power of Pink” items.
On Sunday, the Tide will host its annual Ghost and Goblins intrasquad meet in the Frances Smith Gymnastics Practice Facility located in Coleman Coliseum. The gymnasts are divided into two squads, the Ghosts and the Goblins, and will compete for points in a scoring system devised by the coaches. The intrasquad starts at approximately 1:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
The Tide's weekend activities come on the heels of an already full week. Thursday night, Sarah Patterson served as hostess for “A Nite of the Green” a charity gala that raised money for the DCH Breast Cancer Fund started in 2004 to support Patterson’s “Power of Pink” initiatives. And that was just the start of a hectic schedule that runs through the weekend.
“We have a busy week, but certainly an exciting one,” Patterson said. “The ladies are certainly looking forward to getting out into the community and lending a helping hand as well as meeting the fans and getting a taste of competition on Sunday.”
On Friday, Patterson and her gymnasts helped with the third annual "Tuscaloosa Toyota DCH Foundation Golf Classic" at the NorthRiver Golf Club which also raises money for the DCH Breast Cancer Fund.
