PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Women's tennis tandem Paulina Bigos and Tiffany Welcher dropped an 8-3 decision in the doubles consolation draw to Southern California's Alison Ramos and Maria Sanchez at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships Wednesday.
"Today proved to be a tough match," said assistant coach Rahim Esmail. "Ramos and Sanchez played a solid match and stepped up on the big points. Paulina and Tiffany made efforts to do the right things but had difficulties putting it together consistently."
Bigos and Welcher finished the tournament with three wins, including three straight to advance to the qualifying draw, and two losses.
"Overall, the experience competing at All-Americans has been very positive," Esmail added. "We gained much needed national experience while grabbing three quality wins over national-caliber doubles teams. Paulina and Tiffany took advantage of this opportunity and were exposed to basically an NCAA Championship in the fall season. This will prove to be advantageous down the road."
Alabama returns to the courts October 24 when it takes part in the ITA Southern Championships in Athens, Ga.
