
Women's Soccer Week That Was: Week 11

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama soccer team is in the thick of the Southeastern Conference tournament race after it earned a tie on the road against the Tennessee Lady Vols. The Crimson Tide though was then tripped up on Sunday against Georgia on senior day.
The Tide opened the week with a 1-1 double overtime draw in Knoxville. After Tennessee had taken a 1-0 lead Alabama used a goal with just over 30 seconds left in regulation to help secure the valuable point on the road.
Sophomore defender Grace Lawson scored her first career goal when the Tide needed it the most. With just over 30 to go in regulation the first-year defender found the upper-v on a pass from senior Kailey Corken.
On senior day the Tide fell in it last showing at the Alabama Soccer Complex on the season to Georgia 2-0. Nine seniors played their final match at home on Sunday.
Alex Butera, Kailey Corken, Jessica Deegan, Kara Gudmens, Cara Kelly, Karen Lansden, Callie Pike, Colleen Posey and Jamie Zimmerman were recognized before kickoff. The nine players have combined to play 514 games for the Crimson Tide.
Alabama had an unusual week with the Thursday night contest on the road. The Tide took its normal Monday day off and then returned to training on Tuesday afternoon. Alabama then practiced Wednesday morning and left for Knoxville.
After a 10:00 a.m. walkthrough on the UT campus the Tide then played under the lights at Regal Stadium. The next day the Tide trained at 4:00 p.m. back in Tuscaloosa and then returned to the practice field on Saturday for final preparations for Georgia.
Alabama will conclude its regular season on the road against rival Auburn. The Crimson Tide will head to the plains on Friday, Oct. 31 for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. The rivalry match could dictate the postseason chances for Alabama.
