TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama gymnast Kassi Price, who continues to earn honors for a standout sophomore season, was named to the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 At-Large team it was announced this week. Price earned first-team honors and will be on the ballot for Academic All-American honors which will be announced later this summer.
The Plantation, Fla. native, who holds a perfect 4.0 grade point average in business, is a two-year All-American on the uneven bars. Price finished the 2008 regular season ranked third in the nation on the uneven bars and helped lead the Crimson Tide to its 24th top-six finish at the NCAA Championships.
"I'm very proud of Kassi and what she has accomplished, both in the gym and in the classroom," Alabama head coach Sarah Patterson said. "She works extremely hard and is dedicated to succeeding in all aspects of the student-athlete experience, and I think this award attests to that fact."
Earning a spot on the at-large team is especially difficult as it considers athletes from several different sports. Since 1986, nine Alabama gymnasts have earned 12 CoSIDA academic honors, including Stephanie Kite who was named CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large Team Member of the Year in 2004
"The CoSIDA academic at-large program is very prestigious because it considers student-athletes from across the country in a variety of sports," Patterson said. "It says a lot about Alabama Gymnastics and the emphasis that we put academics to have had so many of our ladies earn this honor."
The 2008 NCAA South Central Regional uneven bars and balance beam champion, Price also earned second team All-SEC honors this season. A two-year SEC Academic Honor Roll honoree, she has made the President's List (4.0 GPA) every semester of her career.
A member of Gamma Beta Phi, Lambda Sigma, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Sigma Alpha Lambda, Alpha Lambda Delta honoraries and a C&BA Scholar-Athlete, Price also earned Alabama's Economics Freshman Achievement Award
