How did you begin running distance?
"I began running in seventh grade one day after football practice. I was walking home and a few of my buddies came running by and I joined them."
What inspired you to come to The University of Alabama?
"My family members have always been huge Alabama fans. When I came on my visit, Coach (Adam) Tribble, Coach (Dan) Waters and the team made me feel very welcome and made the decision to come here a lot easier.
So far, what is the biggest difference you've noticed in college training and high school?
"I would say the mileage. I have come close to doubling my miles per week since high school. Also, the workouts are more intense but spread out, giving us time to recover and be ready for the next workout."
What has been your biggest accomplishment thus far in your running career?
"My biggest accomplishment thus far is winning a team state championship in cross country my junior year of high school. Working for something all season and then it finally paying off is one of the best feelings in the world - especially when you get to share it with some of your best friends."
What goals do you have for this year?
"I would like to help out the team as much as possible and be the very best I can be. Hopefully some big personal records will come with that, too."
As a freshman, what do you think you can learn from the veteran athletes on the squad?
"I think they can help me adjust to the new student-athlete schedule I have. They can also help me complete workouts at a greater intensity than workouts in high school while keeping myself under control and healthy."
Have you ever had an embarrassing or funny moment during a race?
"My most embarrassing moment had to be at the state indoor track meet my junior year of high school. I false started in the 3,200 meters after the race had already been restarted twice."
How many times have you received a funny look when you tell people you are a distance runner and how do you respond?
"I get funny looks all the time. I just tell them it's what I enjoy and they just look amazed."
If you could try any event besides distance, what track event would it be?
"I would for sure try high jump. I have no idea how those guys jump that high in the air, but they make it look easy."
What is a piece of advice you would give young runners?
"I would tell them to keep at it. Running is a hard sport to stick with but it is the most rewarding. Your coaches know what is best for you, so if you buy in to what they say, you will see the results you want."
