RollTide.com caught up with each member of the track and cross country team to find out more about them. Today, we feature Alison Ringle, a freshman from Parkway High School in Bossier, La., where she won the 2013 Louisiana Class 5A outdoor state championship in the 3,200 meters with a time of 11:23.34 .
How did you start running distance?
"In seventh grade, I signed up to be on the track team. I planned to run hurdles, but I fell pretty hard, so that didn't work out very well. Then, my coach asked 'Who wants to run the mile?' and no one really ever wants to run it. I decided I would take the challenge, and I raised my hand. I figured out I was pretty good at it."What's your favorite part about running cross country?
"My favorite part is the people I run alongside. I feel like all runners are genuinely nice people who are good to be around."What's the biggest difference between running in high school and in college?
"One big difference is the morning practices. Then, we come back in the afternoon to practice again. We did doubles in high school, but they weren't quite like this. I also have people to run with here who are better than me and can push me."What's your best advice to young runners?
"Stay dedicated and know what your goals are. Set them and work hard towards them. That's really what will push you to the collegiate level - working hard and pushing through the pain that comes with running."SEC Cross Country Championships Preview
