Alabama rowing signed seven student-athletes during the early signing period who will join the team for the 2016-17 season. Over the coming days, we will be posting individual profiles on rolltide.com for the each member of the class. Our fourth profile is on Kylie Diffley from New Berlin, Wis.
The summer prior to her freshman year at Eisenhower High School in New Berlin, Wis., Kylie Diffley attended a Learn-To-Row camp, exposing her to the sport for the first time. She previously played volleyball but, as a sophomore, the newfound love for rowing compelled Diffley to join the Milwaukee Rowing Club and compete full-time. The same club also produced current Tide junior Abby Marks, who hails from Germantown, Wis., just 20 miles north of Diffley's hometown of New Berlin. This fall, Diffley competed at the Head of the Charles where her eight placed 37th, separated from the two boats ahead of her by less than half a second.
"Living in Wisconsin with its long and cold winters made each moment Kylie spent on the water rowing very precious," head coach Larry Davis said. "She learned the value and importance of focus; as well as how to maximize the benefit she garnered from each workout."
When not rowing, Diffley likes to remain active outdoors as she enjoys hiking, biking, running and swimming. Upon enrolling in Alabama next year, Diffley is considering studying Pre-Med and Finance.
"This ability to focus carried over to her academics," Davis said. "She excelled as a student, which is very important for her long-term career goal in the medical field. Kylie is a great fit for our team and we're looking forward to her contributing to our team's success."
