STILLWATER, Okla. - The Alabama women's team ran to a second-place finish while the men took fifth on Saturday morning at the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla., hosted by Oklahoma State University. Just as they did at the Brooks Twilight Classic, redshirt freshman Rachael Reddy and senior Katelyn Greenleaf went 1-2 in the women's race, as Reddy claimed the individual title.
The Oklahoma State women were able to win the team title, totaling 39 points behind four runners placing in the top 10. Alabama was a close second with 41 points, Northern Arizona (69 points) took third, and Kentucky (105) was fourth. The Cowboys also claimed the men's team title with just 40 points. Kentucky and Northern Arizona tied for second at 61 points, Kansas State (125 points) finished fourth, and the Crimson Tide (131 points) placed fifth.
The women ran a 6k-race, and at the 3k mark, Reddy and Greenleaf were 10 seconds ahead of the field. Reddy would cross the finish line in 21:02.3, and Greenleaf came across seven seconds later to record a time of 21:09.3. Reddy has now won both collegiate cross country meets she has competed in during her career after securing the Brooks Twilight Classic title on Sept 5. Junior Hannah Waggoner also posted a top-10 finish, clocking a 21:29.8 that was good enough for seventh overall.
Also scoring for the Crimson Tide were seniors Rebecca Stover and Meropi Panagiotou. Stover finished in 13th (21.46.3) and Panagiotou finished 18th (22:08.2). From there, the team's depth shined through once again. Sophomore Alison Ringle was just over a second behind Panagiotou, recording a time of 22:09.8 for 19th, while fellow sophomore Veronica Lyle finished 21st in a time of 22:15.1.
The remaining Alabama runners in the field were sophomore Caroline Barlow (22:18.9), junior Allison Gregg (22:21.1), and sophomore Emily Edwards (22:27.0).
In the men's 8k, it was junior Antibahs Kosgei who paced the Tide yet again. He would record a time of 25:08.9 for seventh place. Fellow junior Robbie Farnham-Rose was next to cross the line for the Tide, finishing 26:00.8 for 20th overall.
Senior Eric Sivill and sophomore Garrett Bull were the next two scorers for Alabama. Sivill recorded a 26:37.9 to finish 33rd while Bull was right behind him to secure 34th in a time of 26:45.5. Rounding out the scoring performances was sophomore Josh Short, who placed 37th thanks to his effort of 26:53.4.
Senior Justin Ahalt and freshman Chris Buechner turned in a solid race as well. Ahalt finished in 26:58.6 (40th) and Buechner came across in 27:09.1 (42nd). Also competing for the Tide were junior Conner Thompson (27:09.4), sophomore Andrew Bull (27:11.8), and junior Evan Prizy (28:17.7).
Both squads will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 16 when the Harry Pritchett Running Course serves as the host site for the annual Crimson Classic. The meet will also serve as the program's Power of Pink event.
