Alabama Wraps Up Successful 2016 Cross Country Season

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama finished off the 2016 cross country season with two runners competing in the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 19 in Terre Haute, Ind. Seniors Antibahs Kosgei and Robbie Farnham-Rose finished 43rd and 123rd, respectively.
On the women's side, the Crimson Tide received solid debut performances from its freshman class, led by McKenzie Yanek, who earned a spot on the Freshman All-SEC squad. Yanek, Hannah Capek and Elisabeth Danis were three of the Tide's five scoring runners at both the Southeastern Conference Championships and the NCAA South Regional.
As a team, the Alabama men recorded fifth- and fourth-place finishes at the SEC Championships and NCAA South Regional while the women finished sixth and fourth at the SEC meet and the South Regional. The women's squad has now earned four consecutive top-four regional finishes, while the men's fourth place regional placing is the team's best since finishing first in 2010.
Farnham-Rose, Kosgei & Waggoner Earn All-South Region Honors
Farnham-Rose, Kosgei and women's senior Hannah Waggoner received All-South Region honors for their performances at the NCAA South Regional Nov. 11 in Tallahassee, Fla.
Farnham-Rose finished third at the 2016 South Regional to earn his second All-Region selection. The senior from Borough Green, England previously earned the honor at the 2014 meet, which was also held in Tallahassee.
Kosgei's sixth-place finish at the regional earned him a spot on the men's All-Region team for the second year in a row. Kosgei, who won the South Region meet a year ago in Tuscaloosa, was also voted the South Region Athlete of the Year in 2015.
Waggoner also earned All-South Region honors for the second time in her career. She was previously named to the women's team as a sophomore in 2014.
Kosgei, Yanek Earn All-SEC Honors
Senior Antibahs Kosgei and freshman McKenzie Yanek received All-SEC honors for their performances at the SEC Championships on Oct. 28 in Fayetteville, Ark.
Kosgei's eighth-place finish at the championships earned him a spot on the men's All-SEC second team. The honor is the second for Kosgei, who was a first team selection a year ago after winning the men's individual title at the 2015 championships in College Station, Texas.
Yanek was named to the women's SEC All-Freshman team after her 22nd-place finish in Fayetteville. The Bettendorf, Iowa native was Alabama's top finisher for the second meet in a row at the SEC Championships and is the fifth Alabama runner to earn women's All-Freshman honors.
