
Alabama Gymnastics Celebrates 2016 Season with Annual Banquet

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama gymnastics team celebrated a 2016 season that saw the Crimson Tide win its NCAA-best 31st regional title as well as post its NCAA-best 23rd top-three NCAA Championship finish with its annual awards banquet.
The event, hosted by the program's booster organization, The Medalist Club, was held on the floor of Coleman Coliseum Sunday night with more than 300 in attendance.
The 2016 season saw the Crimson Tide earned its 34th national championship berth and its NCAA-best 22nd Super Six appearance. With its third-place finish at the 2016 NCAA Championships, Alabama also became the only program in the country to finish in the top-four at the NCAA Championships each of the last eight years.
Junior Mary Lillian Sanders was honored with the Lewis Each Courage Award, which is recognized as the most prestigious honor bestowed by the program. Sanders accepted the award from Jean and Winston Each, parents of the honor's namesake, the late Lewis Each.
Other awards handed out Sunday included:
- David Dutton Memorial Award: Jennie Loeb
- David DeSantis Community Service Award: Mackenzie Valentin
- David Patterson Work Ethic Award: Lauren Beers
- Dana Dobransky Commitment to Excellence: Carley Sims
- Fern Hampton Academic Award: Mackenzie Brannan
The Tide's 2016 NCAA vault champion, Katie Bailey, was also honored during the banquet, along with its five 2016 All-Americans -- Bailey, Beers, Brannan, Kiana Winston and Aja Sims.
The Medalist Club's Pat Huet President's Award went to long-time Medalist Club board member David Heggem. Both outgoing Medalist Club president Pamela Crowe and incoming president Jim Davis spoke of the Tide's season of excellence and excitement for the future.
