Junior recognized for performance at Crimson Classic
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama's Vincent Kiprop has been named the Southeastern Conference co-Runner of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. Kiprop was honored for his performance at the Crimson Classic on Oct. 13. The recognition is the first of Kiprop's UA career.
The junior transfer from Kericho, Kenya, was the runner-up at the Crimson Classic, covering the 8,000-meter course in 23:26.40, the second-fastest time ever run at Alabama's Harry Pritchett Running Park and the fastest turned in by an SEC runner this season. Kiprop has a victory and two second place finishes in three outings this season. He won the 8,000-meter UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 16 and was the runner-up to teammate Gilbert Kigen in the 5-mile Joe Piane Invitational at Notre Dame on Sept. 29.
Kiprop and his teammates will return to action at the SEC Cross Country Championships on Oct. 27 at the University of Georgia.
