Alabama Women’s Golf in Fourth Place after First Round at Mason Rudolph Championship

Stephenson, Gillman lead Tide with under par performances on Friday
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The Alabama women's golf team opened the fall portion of the 2017-18 season with a first round 4-under par 284 to sit in fourth place at the Mason Rudolph Championship at the par-72, 6,335-yard Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course.
Junior Lauren Stephenson and sophomore Kristen Gillman paced the Tide on Friday. Stephenson fired the low round for UA, shooting a four-under par 68 to end her day tied for sixth. Gillman turned in 2-under par 70 and is tied for 12th place.
Senior Lakareber Abe, the 2015 Mason Rudolph individual champion, finished with an even par 72 and is tied for 24th. Junior Cheyenne Knight, who won the event in 2016, carded a two-over par 74 and is tied for 46th. Freshman Angelica Moresco, who is making her collegiate debut this weekend, ended the day with a five-over par 77 and is in 68th place.
Arkansas tops the team leaderboard after the Razorbacks fired a 15-under par 273 on Friday. Host Vanderbilt (275) is two shots back at 13-under par. Arizona State is third at 11-under par (277), followed by the Tide at 4-under par (284). Northwestern and Auburn are tied for fifth at 3-under par (285).
The second round of the 54-hole tournament will begin at 8 a.m. CT on Saturday. Alabama will be paired with Northwestern and Auburn in round two. Angelica Moresco will be first off the tee for the Tide at 9:20 a.m. CT, followed by Cheyenne Knight at 9:30, Lakareber Abe at 9:40, Kristen Gillman at 9:50 and Lauren Stephenson at 10:00.
