The Laurel, Miss., native will join the Crimson Tide program for the 2020 season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A six-time state champion, Emma DeSantis will join The University of Alabama gymnastics team for the 2020 season head coach Dana Duckworth announced Friday.
"Emma has an amazing story and we look forward to helping her continue that journey and see her dreams come true," Duckworth said. "She is full of personality, loves our program and this University. Throughout her career, her passion for gymnastics remains strong and she is determined to make an impact on this program."
A three-time Mississippi state champion and a three-time Alabama state champion, DeSantis is coached by Cynthia Dedeaux and Alysha Talley at the Brook-lin Center. A five-time Region 8 qualifier, she has posted nine top-15 finishes at the Region 8 Championships.
"Since I was a little girl, my dream has always been to be an Alabama gymnast," DeSantis said. "I have been attending Alabama Gymnastics camps since I was seven years old and Tuscaloosa has always felt like home. The family atmosphere, rich tradition, and high academic and athletic standards are all reasons I chose Alabama. I believe Alabama will not only provide me with the resources to succeed in gymnastics, but in life as well."
A Magna Cum Laude, 2019 Mississippi Scholars and Mississippi Honors Graduate at South Jones High School, she is the daughter of Mandy and Robert DeSantis.
While the Tide's latest addition to its gymnastics family gets her start with the 2020 season, this year's squad gets things underway on January 4 in Coleman Coliseum. Season tickets are available through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum or online at RollTide.com.
