
Alabama Moves Up Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate Leaderboard After Second Straight Below Par Round

The Crimson Tide cards consecutive season-best single-round scores and is at 11-under par after 36 holes
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The Alabama men's golf team carded its second consecutive season-low round, firing 6-under 278 on Monday, and moved up two spots into eighth overall with a team score of 11-under par 559 (279-278) after 36 holes of play at the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate.
The Crimson Tide and Ole Miss are tied for eighth entering Tuesday's final round. Tournament host Vanderbilt (536) holds an 11-stroke lead over second place Texas A&M (546), while Georgia (547), Florida (550) and LSU (551) round out the top five.
All five UA golfers carded rounds of even par or below on Monday, including David Morgan who did not play in Sunday's opening round before being inserted into the lineup to begin round two. Davis Shore (T15th), Wilson Furr (T19th) and Thomas Ponder (T25th) are among the top-25 individuals in the field, with all three sitting below par going into the final 18 holes of play.
The 14-team event which features all Southeastern Conference teams is being held on the par 71, 7,221-yard Vanderbilt Legends Club North course.
ROUND TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- For a second consecutive round, the Crimson Tide caught fire on the course's back nine, finishing at 6-under par as a team with nine birdies compared to only three bogeys.
- Combined with Sunday's 10-under over the same stretch of holes, Alabama has played the course's back nine at 16-under par for the week.
THE LINEUP
- Shore matched his career-best 36-hole total after a second straight round of 3-under 68 to result in a 6-under par 136 for the tournament. He will enter the final 18 holes in a tie for 13th overall.
- Furr is in a tie for 20th after consecutive rounds of 2-under par 69 for a 4-under 138 across 36 holes played.
- Ponder is at 3-under 139 (69-70) after back-to-back sub-par rounds and is in a tie for 25th overall.
- Canon Claycomb is in a tie for 51st at 2-over par 144 (73-71).
- Morgan's even par 71 was the first round he played as a member of the Crimson Tide team after transferring from Virginal in the spring of 2020.
FUN FACT
- Shore collected an eagle on his 11th hole of the day, the 357-yard par-4 2nd hole, which marked the first of the week by any UA golfer.
NEXT ROUND
