
Alabama in Fourth Overall After Day One of the Blessings Collegiate Invitational

Thomas Ponder and Wilson Furr among top-15 to lead the Crimson Tide in the season-opening event
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Alabama men's golf team opened the 2020 campaign on Monday by carding a 3-over par 291 and is in a tie for fourth overall after day one of the Blessings Collegiate Invitational. The event, which features simultaneous play from all 14 Southeastern Conference men's and women's teams, is being played on the par 72, 7,503-yard Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark.
Tennessee holds the clubhouse lead after firing an 8-under par 280 on day one to take an 8-stroke lead over second place Kentucky (288) and Texas A&M (288), which are tied for second overall. LSU and Alabama are in a tie for fourth overall to round out the top five teams.
ROUND ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophomore Thomas Ponder carded a 2-under par 70 to lead the Crimson Tide and finish the day in a tie for fourth overall.
- Senior Wilson Furr also ended the day below par, carding a 1-under 71 and is in a tie for 11th place entering Tuesday's second round.
OTHER PERFORMERS
- Sophomore Tyler Lipscomb, playing in just his second career event for the Tide, also had a solid performance, matching his career-best round of 3-over par 75 to end the day in a tie for 33rd overall.
- Senior Davis Shore also carded a 3-over 75 on the day, while freshman JP Cave made his collegiate debut and is in a tie for 67th overall (82).
FUN FACT
- Ponder finished with a bogey-free round on day one and was the only golfer in the 70-man field to not record a single bogey on the day. He currently leads the field with 16 pars.
