Ryan Lipe Puts Alabama on the Board after Day One of the NCAA Outdoor Championships

Lipe finished sixth in the pole vault while Eliud Kipsang (1,500 meters) and Robert Dunning (110-meter hurdles) advanced to Friday’s finals
EUGENE, Ore. – Alabama pole vaulter Ryan Lipe got the Crimson Tide on the board after day one of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships being held at the newly renovated Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus this week.
Lipe took sixth place in the pole vault with a clearance of 5.45 meters. His finish gave the Tide three points, good for 26th place after day one.
The Crimson Tide also advanced two runners to Friday's finals, including Eliud Kipsang (1,500 meters) and Robert Dunning (110-meter hurdles).
After the men opened their championship run on Wednesday, the women get things rolling on Thursday.
Moving On
- Eliud Kipsang posted a 3:37.60 in the semifinals of the 1,500 meters to advance to what promises to be a very competitive final
- After running a 13.60 in the semifinals, Robert Dunning is moving on to Friday's final of the 110-meter hurdles
Other Day One Finishes
- Vincent Kiprop turned in a season-best 28.19.12 to take 14th in the 10,000 meters, just .05 off his career-best time
- Isaac Odugbesan (18.96 meters) took 12th place, while Chago Basso (18.59 meters) finished 15th in the shot put
- Bobby Colantonio Jr. (69.53 meters) and Kieran McKeag (68.43 meters) finished 15th and 19th, respectively in the hammer throw
- Champion Allison (46.81) finished 17th in the 400 meters
- The 4x400-meter relay of Gabe Serrano, Joshua St. Clair, Matthew Weaver and Jonathan Martin ran a 3:12.55 to take 20th place
Day One Schedule for the Crimson Tide Women (all times central)
- The Alabama women open the NCAA Championships with seven semifinals and three finals on Thursday
- The Crimson Tide opens Thursday with the semifinals of the 4x100-meter relay (5:32 p.m.) and closes the day with the 4x400-meter relay (8:48 p.m.) semifinals
- Amaris Tyynismaa opens the Tide's slate of individual semifinals with the 1,500 meters (5:46 p.m.)
- Tamara Clark will run a pair of individual semifinals with both the 100 meters (6:46 p.m.) and 200 meters (7:44 p.m.) getting underway on Thursday
- Natassha McDonald will run the semifinals of the 400 meters (7 p.m.)
- Leah Hanle will run the finals of the steeplechase (6 p.m.)
- Nickolette Dunbar and Taylor Gorum opens on the Tide's field events with the shot put (7:40 p.m.)
- The Tide's other day-one final comes in the 10,000 meters (8:08 p.m.) with Mercy Chelangat
