The Crimson Tide slate will consist of four tournaments in the fall and as many as seven in the spring
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama men's golf head coach Jay Seawell officially announced the 2021-22 schedule on Tuesday, which features four fall and, including postseason, seven spring events throughout the upcoming campaign.
Highlighting the early part of the schedule is the Crimson Tide's new home event, SEC Match Play hosted by Jerry Pate on Oct. 10-12. The three-day tournament, which is taking the place of the 35-year-long Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, will combine stroke play and match play and will be played at Shoal Creek Country Club across 54 holes and feature all 14 SEC schools.
The Crimson Tide will open the season at the Maui Jim Invitational on Sept. 10-12, which will be played at Mirabel Golf Course in Scottsdale, Ariz. Alabama will then make the trek to Chicago for the annual Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational on Sept. 17-19 before returning home to prepare for the SEC Match Play event. UA will then conclude its fall season in Little Rock, Ark., at the Jackson T Stephens Cup Oct. 18-20.
"We are excited about this schedule," Seawell said. "It sticks to our philosophy of playing great venues against the best teams in the nation. We will get the opportunity to play in Arizona early which will help us get a better understanding of how to play in that type of environment and will be just up the road from where the 2022 NCAA Championships (Grayhawk Country Club in Phoenix). I am also looking forward to the new SEC Match Play hosted by Jerry Pate, which is going to be a great addition. I cannot express how proud I am that Mr. Pate has agreed to host this special event."
Alabama will open the first of four regular season spring events at the Seminole Intercollegiate in Panama City, Fla., Feb. 18-20, before traveling to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico to compete at the annual Cabo Collegiate on Feb. 27-March 1. The Crimson Tide will next compete at the Linger Longer Invitational on March 20-22 in Greensboro, Ga., before wrapping up regular season action at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational held in Augusta, Ga., April 2-3.
Postseason play begins April 20-24 with the SEC Men's Golf Championships held in St. Simons Island, Ga., at the Sea Island Golf Club Seaside Course. NCAA Regionals are scheduled for May 16-18, while the golf season will conclude May 27-June 1 at the NCAA Championships, held at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
