Alabama Men’s Golf Fires a Seven-Under Par in the Second Round of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate

The Crimson Tide in a tie for 11th overall heading into Sunday’s final round of play
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Alabama men's golf team carded a 7-under par 273 in Saturday's second round of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate. The Crimson Tide improved by 14 strokes from Friday's 7-over 287 and will enter the third and final round in a tie for 11th overall with a 36-hole total of even par 560.
Thomas Ponder and Tyler Lipscomb led Alabama by carding rounds of 3-under 67 on the day, while JP Cave finished at 2-under par 68.
Day Two Recap
- Three Crimson Tide golfers carded rounds in the 60s during Saturday's second round of play
- Lipscomb's 67 is a career-best 18-hole score, topping the 68 he shot in the opening round of last year's Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate
- Ponder carded his second consecutive sub-70 score and his 12th career round in the 60s with his 3-under par total on the 7,115-yard par 70 Mirabel Golf Course
- Ponder leads UA in a tie for 20th overall with a 4-under 136 (69-67), while Lipscomb is two shots behind him in a tie for 33rd at 2-under 138 (71-67)
- After carding a 4-over par 74 in round one, Cave responded with his 2-under par total on Saturday to end the day in a tie for 58th with a 2-over 142
- Jack Goldasich is in a tie for 72nd with a 145 (73-72), while Canon Claycomb is in 79th at 6-over par 146 (75-71)
- Dillon West continues to play solid in the individual slot with a 36-hole score of 2-over par 142 (70-72) to end the day in a tie for 58th
- No. 17 Georgia Tech (526) holds a 4-stroke clubhouse lead over No. 11 Clemson (530), with No. 20 Auburn (545), No. 33 Louisville (545) and No. 28 Washington (545) rounding out the top-five
Day Three Preview
- The Crimson Tide will tee off the third round of play Sunday morning off Hole No. 10 at 10:40 a.m. CT (8:40 a.m. PT)
- The field consists of 14 teams, eight of which are found among the Bushnell Golf Coaches Poll Preseason Top-40
- The tournament is in its fourth year in 2021 and is hosted by Georgia State, despite being nearly 2,000 miles away from its Atlanta-based campus
- The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Sunday
