Alabama Rowing Finishes 2nd at Big 12 Championships Sunday

The Crimson Tide medals in all five races, places four on All-Big 12 Team
AUSTIN, Texas – Alabama rowing medaled in each of its five races at Sunday's Big 12 Championships, earning its third-straight second place team finish.
The Crimson Tide took silver in the First and Second Varsity 4+ races and bronze in the First, Second and Third Varsity 8+, earning 73 points towards a second-place team finish. Alabama has finished second in each of the last three years. Four members of the Tide's First Varsity 8+ boat earned All-Big 12 accolades: Darcy Jennings, Ella Kemna, Claudia Mecchia and Gianna Rucki.
After the 3V4+ opened the day with a 8:26.921 in its exhibition race, the 3V8+ began the scoring portion of the schedule with a tightly-contested third place finish (7:20.881), batting with second-place Kansas the whole. The 2V4+ pushed to a second-place finish (8:04.063), posting a six-second lead ahead of third-place Oklahoma. The Tide's 2V8+ took home bronze in 7:10.106, finishing a boat length behind second-place Tennessee. The 1V8+ closed out the day's racing with a photo finish against Tennessee, as Alabama took home a third-place finish (7:53.892) less than a second behind the second-place Lady Vols.
The Crimson Tide now awaits the NCAA Division I Rowing Selection Show on Tuesday, May 17 at 4 p.m. CT, with qualifying teams racing in the NCAA Championships May 27-29 in Sarasota, Fla.

"We saw some of our best performances of the year today and all of our crews raced with grit and pushed all the way down the racecourse for each other. We now have to wait and see if we did enough to earn an invite to NCAA's. Texas has been great all season and has posted some really impressive margins against everyone they raced. If this was our last race of the season, we are proud of this team and grateful to all our seniors and grad students who have helped establish this program as consistently one of the best in the Big 12."
