Planinsek and Zimnokh Qualify for Semifinals in Doubles, Three Alabama Singles Players Advance to Quarterfinals

The doubles team of Planinsek and Zimnokh will compete in the semifinals Monday as the Crimson Tide also advanced three singles players to the quarterfinals

AUBURN, Ala. –– Alabama doubles duo Filip Planinsek and Andrii Zimnokh advanced to the semifinals at the ITA Southern Regional Championships, while Planinsek, Enzo Aguiard and Matias Ponce De Leon qualified for the quarterfinals Sunday.

The Tournament

Planinsek and Zimnokh won a pair of matches to advance to the semifinals in doubles
The UA duo defeated Benito Sanchez Martinez and Petar Jovanovic (MSU), 8-3, before defeating LSU's Welsh Hotard and George Stoupe 8-5
Planinsek also recorded a win in singles play, downing Billy Blaydes from Auburn 7-6 (5), 1-6, 6-1
Enzo Aguiard posted a three-set 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3 victory over Mississippi State's Radomir Tomic
Matias Ponce De Leon defeated 77^th-ranked John Hallquist Lithen (Ole Miss) in a three set, come-from-behind win at 2-6, 6-4, 6-3
Additionally, Roan Jones and Ponce De Leon topped Birtan Duran and Alberto Altur in the Round of 16, but fell in the quarterfinal round of doubles play

Planinsek and Zimnokh will compete in the semifinalist against Carlos Gimenez Perez and Juan Pablo Valdez Guzman from UAB on Monday
All three UA singles players will open competition at 10 a.m. CT
Planinsek will face Benito Sanchez Martinez (MSU), while Aguiard competes against Alex Bancila (Tulane) and Ponce De Leon competes against Rudy Ceccon (LSU)
