The senior scored a 9.950 to earn a share of second place and first-team All-America honors
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama senior Luisa Blanco posted a 9.950 to finish in a tie for second place at the NCAA Championships, also earning first team All-America honors with her performance.
The senior scored a 9.950 in front of a six-judge panel, her fourth score of 9.950-or-higher this season on the uneven bars. She shared second place with Utah's Grace McCallum and Maile O'Keefe, Florida's Trinity Thomas and Michigan's Abby Heiskell. UCLA's Jordan Chiles took home the title with a 10.000.
Blanco's finish earned her first-team All-America accolades, combining with her three regular-season All-America honors to give her four total in the 2023 season. The senior now has 16 total All-America honors in her career, just two back from UA's program record of 18 set by Jeana Rice from 2001-04.
Head Coach Ashley Johnston said
"I am so proud of Luisa for her performance tonight. She took advantage of the opportunity to compete as an individual and delivered on the biggest stage in NCAA Gymnastics. Waiting all day to compete one routine is not an easy thing to do, and the fact that she was able to compete as well as she did in that moment is a testament to her determination and strength and how fierce of a competitor she is. She was an incredible representative of the University of Alabama today and our whole team is so excited for her."
