NCAA South Regional Championships – Notable Splits
The Rundown
- Nine Division I cross country regionals will be held on Nov. 15, each hosted by a school in that region
- Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Mountain, Northeast, South, South Central, Southeast, West
- The top-two teams, in each region, will secure automatic bids to the National Championship
- 13 teams will then have the ability to earn an at-large bid, as announced later by the NCAA Division I Cross Country Subcommittee
- The first four regional finishers, not from an automatic qualifying or at-large team, will also secure an auto-bid to the national meet
- Only two individual at-large bids are selected for the Championships, announced later by the Subcommittee
The Year Prior
- Last season, the UA women earned the program's third straight top-five finish at the regional meet, highlighted by a first-place finish in 2022
- Doris Lemngole arrives to Tallahassee as the 2023 runner-up at the South Regional Championships
- In 2023, the UA men captured its fourth consecutive top-three finish at the regional meet
- Hillary Cheruiyot enters Tallahassee as the defending individual champion in the men's 10k race
The Rankings
- The Alabama men sit at No. 10 in the nation and No. 1 in the South Region after securing the program's third consecutive top-two finish at the Southeastern Conference Championships
- Victor Kiprop is ranked No. 11 in FloTrack's 2024 NCAA cross country men's individual rankings
- Alabama is one of only two schools in the league with student-athletes listed in the top 12
- After capturing the 2024 SEC Championship, the UA women sit at No. 7 in the nation and No. 1 in the South Region
- Conference champion Doris Lemngole is ranked No. 1 in FloTrack's 2024 NCAA cross country women's individual rankings
- Alabama is one of two schools in the SEC with a student-athlete listed in the top five
