The Crimson Tide moves up five spots into a fourth-place tie after 36 holes played
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The No. 9 Alabama men's golf team carded the third-lowest round on Saturday, finishing second round action with a team score of 5-under par 279. As a result, the Crimson Tide vaulted six spots up the leaderboard into a fourth-place tie with a two-day total of 3-over par 571 (292-279).
Three UA golfers ended the day with scores of par or better, led by JP Cave's bogey-free round of 4-under par 67 to move into a ninth-place tie on the individual leaderboard. He joins Thomas Ponder, who ended the day at 2-under par and is in a tie for sixth overall, inside the top-10 individuals heading into Sunday's final round of action.
The final round, which is being played the par 71, 7,112-yard Vanderbilt Legends South Course, can be followed throughout on Golfstat.com.
Round Two Highlights
- JP Cave followed his opening round of 3-over 74 with his 4-under 67 to finish with a 36-hole total of 1-under par 141
- Cave, who started on No. 10, began at 1-under through nine and finished with three birdies over his final eight holes
- Thomas Ponder leads the Crimson Tide in a sixth-place tie and is the only UA golfer to card below par scores in each of his first two rounds
- Ponder opened with a 1-under par 70 before shooting 2-under par 69 for a two-day total of 3-under par 139
- Jones Free carded an even par round of 71 Saturday and is in a tie for 23rd at 1-over par 143 (72-71)
- Canon Claycomb is in a tie for 41st at 5-over 147 (75-72) while Jonathan Griz rounds out Alabama's starting five in a tie for 67th position overall with a 154 (81-73)
- Austin Coggin and Luke Coyle are also competing in the event as individuals with both ending the day inside the top-30 individuals
- Coyle finished round two at 1-under par 70 and in a tie for 11th overall with an even par 142 (72-70)
- Coggin is in a tie for 29th overall at 4-over 145 (71-74)
Team Highlights
- Alabama made the biggest jump up the leaderboard on moving day, climbing six spots from 10th place after round one
- No. 3 Vanderbilt (-17) continues to hold the clubhouse lead, taking a 10-shot advantage over No. 5 Ole Miss (-7)
- Middle Tennessee State (-1) is in third with the Crimson Tide (+3) and Charlotte (+3) and No. 5 Ole Miss (+1) tide for fourth overall
- Alabama will tee off the second round beginning at 10:15 a.m. CT on hole No. 1 and is paired alongside Charlotte and UNCW
