Alabama Trio Earn GCAA All-America Scholar Honors

Canon Claycomb, Jones Free and Thomas Ponder each earned the recognition for their performance on and off the course
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama men's golfers Canon Claycomb, Jones Free and Thomas Ponder have been named Golf Coaches Association of America All-America Scholars, the organization has announced.
To be eligible for Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically, must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.

- Finished the year ranked No. 20 in the PGA Tour University rankings
- Closed an outstanding career with a top-10 finish at the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional, finishing with season-best numbers for 18- (65), 36- (135) and 54-hole (202) numbers
- Collected four top-10 finishes, including two in the top five, and seven top-20 results in 11 tournaments played this season to lead the Tide in both categories
- Ranked second on the team in stroke average (70.94), average vs. par (-0.28)
- Had a career-best season, finishing 72.71 stroke average and +1.42 average vs. par

- Finished the season with four top-20 results across his 10 tournaments
- Season-best 13th-place result at the Steelwood Collegiate, where he also carded a career-low round of 66
- Collected 11 rounds of par or better including four rounds in the 60s
- Finished the year leading the team in stroke average (70.88) and average vs. par (-0.34)
- Also topped the Tide with 21 rounds of par or better, 11 rounds in the 60s and three top five finishes on the season
- Carded rounds in the 60s in six of his final eight rounds of his collegiate career, including all three rounds of the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional
- Closed that event with a season-best 54-hole score of 7-under par 203
