Planinsek Earns a Pair of ITA Regional Awards

Filip Planinsek was named the ITA Southern Region Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship winner as well as the regional Senior Player of the Year
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama men's tennis standout Filip Planinsek picked up a pair of ITA Southern Regional Awards, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Tuesday. The recent UA graduate was named the ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship honoree for the second consecutive year in addition to being recognized as the region's Senior Player of the Year.
Alabama has had a player earn the ITA Southern Regional Arthur Ashe Award seven times in program history, as Daniil Proskura (2013, 2014) and Planinsek are the lone Tide players to secure the honor twice. Planinsek is just the third player in program history to be named the Southern Regional Senior Player of the Year.

- Took the fall of 2024 off to compete professionally as part of the ATP Next Gen Accelerator Program
- Concluded his senior year ranked 22nd in singles thanks to an impressive 17-3 run at the No. 1 spot
- His national ranking qualified him for the ITF College Accelerator Program, which is awarded to players ranked 21-30 in the ITA's end-of-year singles rankings and provides opportunities compete in international tournaments
- Named a First Team All-Southeastern Conference selection for the second consecutive year as he concluded his collegiate campaign as a five-time all-conference honoree (first team: 2025, 2024; second team: 2023, 2022; all-freshman team: 2022)
- Concluded the regular season as the second-highest ranked singles player in the conference
- Defeated 10 ranked singles opponents at the No. 1 spot
- Aided the Crimson Tide in its win over No. 15 Florida State, defeating the Seminoles' No. 4 doubles pairing of Youcef Rihane and Alex Bulte and No. 15 ranked singles player Corey Craig
- Also missed part of the spring season to compete in the Davis Cup with Slovenia where he captured a singles win to help the team advance over Indonesia
