
Eight Student-Athletes Land on CSC’s Academic All-District Team

RJ Decker, Peter Diebold, Oussama El Bouchayby and Trevor Gunzell earned the honor on the UA men’s side, while Megan Albamonti, Treneese Hamilton, Doris Lemngole and Lilly Walters represented the Crimson Tide women
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Eight members of the Alabama track and field and cross country program earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors, the organization announced Tuesday.
RJ Decker, Peter Diebold, Oussama El Bouchayby and Trevor Gunzell earned the honor on the UA men's side, while Megan Albamonti, Treneese Hamilton, Doris Lemngole and Lilly Walters represented the Crimson Tide women. All eight student-athletes represented Alabama at both the Southeastern Conference Championships and the NCAA East First Round. Additionally, six of UA's honorees competed at the NCAA Championships earlier this month.
Albamonti, Decker, Gunzell, Hamilton, Lemngole and Walters were all selected as CSC Academic All-America finalists and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members.
The Honorees
- All eight honorees were members of the Crimson Tide's NCAA postseason contingent, as six earned National Championship-qualifying results from the NCAA East First Round meet
- Five student-athletes amassed perfect 4.0 GPAs
- Megan Albamonti - post-baccalaureate
- Peter Diebold – master's in communication studies
- Oussama El Bouchayby – sport management
- Doris Lemngole – sport management
- Lilly Walters – kinesiology (exercise science)
- Six student-athletes competed at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships earlier this month, highlighted by NCAA 3,000m steeplechase champion Lemngole
- Lemngole was one of three athletes to notch First Team All-America performances, joining Diebold (sixth, men's 4x400m relay) and El Bouchayby (sixth, men's 4x400m relay)
- Albamonti garnered Second Team All-America honors in the women's javelin
- Decker won bronze in the men's hammer throw while at the outdoor conference meet, before concluding his season at the NCAA East First Round
- Gunzell captured silver in men's discus at the SEC Championships before achieving Second Team All-America honors in both the discus and shot put at the national meet
- Hamilton won gold in shot put during the SEC Indoor Championships before ending her outdoor season with Honorable Mention All-America honors in the same event
- Walters recorded a scoring finish at the SEC Outdoor Championships, running in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase alongside teammate Lemngole, before concluding her season at the NCAA East First Round meet
