CLEMSON, S.C. – Alabama track and field wrapped up competition in electric fashion at the Orange and Purple Invitational Friday as the Tide saw an NCAA season-leading performance, an Algerian national record and a total of six different results all landed on UA's all-time top-10 list.
Crimson Tide multi-athlete Katelyn Adel made her pentathlon season debut, accumulating an NCAA-leading 4,154 points to move to second all-time at UA. The overall victory for the sophomore All-American was highlighted by three consecutive collegiate PR performances in the 60-meter hurdles (8.65), high jump (1.73m | 5-8), and shot put (12.58m | 41-3.25).
400-meter runner Mouatez Sikiou highlighted the track events as his 45.82 performance set an Algerian national record.
Five additional Crimson Tide student-athletes captured event titles in four different track and field events, as distance runners Caren Kiplagat (women's, 4:42.58) and Dismus Lokira (men's, 4:04.04) swept the mile. Jumpers Caelyn Harris (long jump, 6.36m | 20-10.50) and Diamonasia Taylor (high Jump, 1.75m | 5-8.75) added their respective first-place finishes, while Treneese Hamilton also recorded a victory, in the shot put (17.08m | 56-0.50). The men's distance medley relay contingent of Dismus Lokira, Jackson Harris, Adin Lathrop and Evan Trapp claimed the final event victory via a 9:53.69 time.
Head Coach Dan Waters Said
"We had some really strong performances across the board today and I'm proud of the way our group competed and responded from a week ago. Katelyn putting together an NCAA-leading showing in her pentathlon season debut and Mouatez setting an Algerian national record in the 400m were huge highlights, but just as encouraging was seeing multiple of our other athletes step up, win events and move into our program's all-time lists. There's a lot of momentum to build on coming out of this weekend, and now our focus turns to continuing to sharpen the details as we move forward."
Up Next
- The Tide will return to action next weekend, Jan. 30-31, for the PNC Lenny Lyles Invite in Louisville, Ky.
