The Crimson Tide placed first in six of eight races
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's swimming and diving team closed out day one against Miami with a 107-60 lead over the Hurricanes heading into Saturday. The Crimson Tide racked up six first place finishes, including an Alabama Aquatic Center record in the 400 medley relay.
Emily Jones, Jada Scott and Zara Zallen had great swims as they each racked up three first place finishes. The trio was joined by Gaby Van Brunt in the 400 medley relay and the Crimson Tide ended up setting a new pool record with a time of 3:28.87.
On the diving side, Aime Cano Lira placed third in the 1-meter event with a 320.93 score.
From Head Coach Margo Geer
"It was a good start to the meet. In the first session, we came out moving pretty well with the 400 medley relay breaking the pool record and I just felt like we had some good momentum throughout the day. Tomorrow, we want to carry that and bring some more good energy. It'll take another strong performance tomorrow to do what we want to do, I'm excited.
We're competing for something bigger than ourselves all the time, but especially this weekend with the Power of Pink. All the pink was pretty special, and it was a very special day raising awareness."
