Alabama finished its 2026 campaign as one of only two programs nationally to score above a 197.000 in every meet
CORVALLIS, Ore. - No. 5 Alabama gymnastics' season ended Sunday in the Corvallis Regional Final as the Tide's 197.175 team score solidified it as one of only two programs this season to score above a 197.000 in every meet.
Sophomore Kylee Kvamme highlighted UA's night, scoring 9.900 or higher on both of her events. Her team-high 9.900 on the balance beam finished as the third-highest score overall, while her career-high-tying 9.925 on vault placed as the second-highest mark in the regional final. Ryan Fuller and Natalia Pawlak's matching 9.900s on the uneven bars led the Tide and ranked as the second-highest individual scores on the event.
Azaraya Ra-Akbar made her return in the all-around for the first time since Jan. 23, accumulating a 39.475 score. The Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Year captured a season-high 9.875 on the balance beam in just her third time competing on the apparatus this year. Additionally, nine-time All-American, two-time SEC champion and AAI Award finalist Gabby Gladieux tallied a 39.325 in the all-around in her final meet of her legendary career.
No. 5 UCLA won the Corvallis Region with a 197.725 as No. 13 Minnesota (197.625) and No. 12 Utah (197.500) rounded out second and third place, respectively. Alabama's 197.175 placed the Tide in fourth.
Head Coach Ashley Johnston Said
"I'm really proud of our team tonight. This was dubbed as, pretty much, the toughest regional in the country to be at. This team has been (ranked) No. 3 and No. 4 in the country almost all season long and has been one of the most consistent teams in scoring 197-plus in every competition this year. I think every single person that has watched this group sees the culture, sees the camaraderie and connection of what we have built to be one of the most consistent teams. It was a great competition tonight. I think all four teams (in the Corvallis Regional Final) could be national champions. There was just so much talent, so much competitiveness on the floor. Unfortunately, it wasn't our night to move on. These moments are really hard but at the same time, it was really important to pull the team together and ask, 'what can we do and what will we do'.
"The sun is going to come up tomorrow. There will be lessons learned. There will be fires ignited in order to find our next step. I'm just so proud of our seniors. They will go down in history as leaders of a culture transformation, of building what Alabama gymnastics 3.0 is all about. I'm proud of each and every one of them and their growth as gymnasts, as humans, as leaders, as a team, and I think every single one of them should hold their chin up and be proud of what they accomplished all year long. We'll keep fighting as Bama always does."
