Caren Kiplagat’s 10,000-Meter Gold Highlights Day One of SEC Outdoor Championships

Joining the Crimson Tide freshman on the podium were Dismus Lokira (men’s 10,000m) and Ellie Partrick (women’s javelin) who each earned silver medals
AUBURN, Ala. – Alabama track and field freshman Caren Kiplagat highlighted the opening day of the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships by winning gold in the women's 10,000-meter race. Her 32:56.93 time broke the Hutsell-Rosen Track facility record and marked the Crimson Tide's first conference title in the event since 2024.
Joining Kiplagat on the podium were Dismus Lokira (men's 10,000m) and Ellie Partrick (women's javelin), who each captured silver medals in their respective events. Lokira's 29:36.88 time marked UA's fifth consecutive top-two finish in the event at the SEC Outdoor Championships. Partrick's personal-best launch of 57.41 meters (188-4) ranks fifth in the NCAA this season and strengthened her hold on the No. 2 spot in Alabama program history. Partrick's performance also secured the Tide's first SEC silver medal in women's javelin since 2011.
On the track, David Thid (50.25, q) clocked a qualifying time in the men's 400-meter hurdles prelims to advance to Saturday's final, scheduled for 7:15 p.m. CT.
UA men's multi-athletes Harry Crosby and Patrick Daves concluded the first day of the decathlon in second and third place, respectively. The duo will return Friday to compete in the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500-meters.
At the conclusion of Day One, the UA women lead the conference with 21 points, while the UA men sit fifth with 13 points.
