TUSCALOOSA – Alabama women’s basketball coach Rick Moody announced the signing of Texas prep standout Tamisha Hamilton to a national letter-of-intent to play for the Crimson Tide next season.
Hamilton, a 6-5 center from Corpus Christi, Texas, is a senior at Roy Miller High School. A concensus All-State performer as a junior, she was also named the Texas Prep track & field Athlete of the Year after winning the shot put crown.
“One of our major needs was to add some size to our roster and with the addition of Tamisha I believe that we have done that,” said Moody. “Jamilah (Johns) will be graduating this year and that left us with just one post player over six-foot. I am ecstatic to be signing a player with Tamisha’s physical presence. I don’t think we’ve ever had a player that possessed as much size and athleticism. She has good speed, great skills and is a true force on the blocks.”
Hamilton becomes the first player to ink with the Crimson Tide during the NCAA’s early signing period for November.
Moody and the 2002-03 edition of Alabama women’s basketball continue their preparation for the upcoming season with their final exhibition game on Sunday at 4 p.m. against Berry College. The Tide visits Samford on Nov. 22 to open the regular season.
