Bama's Taylor Tankersley Makes Team USA Debut

Tucson, Arizona - University of Alabama left-hander Taylor Tankersley made his Team USA baseball debut Thursday night, pitching one inning of relief, as USA Red defeated USA Blue squad, 5-3, 5-3 in the first scrimmage game of the 2002 USA Baseball National Team Trials at Hi Corbett Field.
Tankersley (Vicksburg, Miss.) allowed one run and two hits in one inning of work, adding one strikeout in the ninth inning. The Alabama freshman pitched in relief of Kyle Sleeth (RHP, So, Wake Forest) tossed 4.0 shutout innings and struck out four - allowing just one hit - to pick up the victory for USA Red.
Michael Aubrey (IF, So, Tulane) had a pair of hits and scored twice for the Red, while Matt Murton (OF, So, Georgia Tech) added a run-scoring triple. Rickie Weeks (IF, So, Southern) also chipped in two hits for the Red squad.
Shane Costa (OF, So, Cal State Fullerton) had a triple and scored a run, while Tony Richie (C, So, Florida State) had a double and scored as well for the Blue. Wes Littleton (RHP, So, Cal State Fullerton) went 4.0 innings for the Blue, allowing four runs on five hits, taking the loss.
The Team USA scrimmages will continue through Monday, June 24 and USA National Team will be announced Tuesday, June 25.
