TUSCALOOSA – University of Alabama head women's basketball coach Rick Moody knows how important good influences are in the lives of the youth of Tuscaloosa and on Thursday morning he did his part in helping the cause by hosting his sixth annual Invitational Golf Tournament benefiting the Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Alabama at the Capstone Club of Alabama.
"It is a thrill and an honor for me to again host a golf tournament that raises money for such a worthy group," said Moody. "Big Brothers Big Sisters is providing a positive impact for the West Alabama community and I am truly pleased to be associated with this wonderful organization."
The tournament field included 50 teams morning and afternoon sessions. Many local business and political leaders took part in the event that helped raised thousands of dollars for the organization that works with children between the ages of six and seventeen. Big Brothers Big Sisters helps provide a committed and caring adult influence in the lives of children that demonstrate a potential for destructive behavior by placing adult mentors with at risk children. The BBBS volunteers spend time helping their “sibling” develop more self-esteem, become more self-reliant and make positive, informed life decisions.
