Alabama Wraps Up Fall Classic with Win Over Chipola

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Riding the hot bats of Emeel Salem and Evan Bush, The University of Alabama defeated Chipola College 6-2, giving the Tide their third straight win in the 2004 Fall Classic.
Bush was two for two with one run and two RBI's. Salem continued his excellent hitting display in the Classic, going two for three with an RBI and a double. Bama used seven pitchers in the game. Tide starter T.J. Large pitched 3 innings giving up five hits and two runs, and striking out four.
Alabama gave up their first and only runs of the Classic in the top of the first off of RBI's from Chipola left fielder Travis Anderson and catcher Tyler Flowers. Alabama answer in the bottom of the second inning, tying the game with a 2 RBI single from Evan Bush. Freshman shortstop Cale Iorg doubled in the bottom of the third, sending left fielder Gabe Scott to third base. After Salem was hit by a pitch, Allen Rice walked which brought Scott to the plate, and gave Bama a 3-2 lead. Transfer catcher Kody Valverde hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, allowing Iorg to score from third and give the Tide a 4-2 lead.
Alabama's final runs in the Classic came in the bottom of the fifth inning. Iorg reached on a fielder's choice, which brought home Bush. On the next at bat, Salem doubled, driving home Iorg, and giving Bama a 6-2 lead.
Alabama finished the 2004 Fall Classic with a 3-0 record. The Tide won their games by a combined score of 15-2. Standout players for Bama included Emeel Salem, who finished seven for eleven with two runs, three RBIs, three doubles, and a triple, Evan Bush, who finished three for six with three RBIs and a homerun, and Wade LeBlanc, who pitched four perfect innings on Saturday and lead the Tide pitching staff with seven strikeouts.
