TUSCALOOSA - The University of Alabama women's basketball team hopes to continue its winning ways after a week off from competition when the Tide travels to Blacksburg, Va., this weekend to face Virginia Tech at 5 p.m. (ET) on Saturday.
The Crimson Tide is 4-0 this year and is coming off an impressive showing at the Seattle Times Classic last weekend. UA captured the tournament championship at the event with a 76-56 victory over the host Washington Huskies. Sophomore Marverly Nettles (MVP) and senior Natasha Gamble were named to the all-tournament squad at the event.
Virginia Tech, who has made the NCAA Tournament field in each of the last two seasons, enters the game with a 2-2 record. The Hokies are looking to rebound after a disappointing 87-56 loss to rival Old Dominion last Saturday. The game will be the first home contest of the season for Virginia Tech, who has posted a 52-9 mark at home over the past four years.
Tech leads the all-time series 1-0 against the Tide having handed Bama a 68-51 loss last season in Tuscaloosa that snapped UA's 53-game non-conference home winning streak. Virginia Tech is playing its first season in the Atlantic Coast Conference and Alabama owns a 17-15 all-time record against the schools of the ACC.
Following their game with the Hokies, Alabama gets a break from the road with a home game next Tuesday (Dec. 7) versus in-state rival UAB at 7 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum.
