One of the state’s top football prospects, John Parker Wilson enrolled at Alabama in January and will split time this spring with football and baseball. Wilson was also a talented high school baseball player and will be competing for time on the infield this spring, mainly third base.
- Wilson played football and baseball at Hoover High School, one of the most successful football and baseball programs in the state
- He was a three-year starter on the baseball diamond for coach Rick Davis
- As a prep senior, he batted .375 and hit nine home runs, while leading the Bucs to the state playoffs
- Following his senior season, he was drafted in the 19th round by the 2004 MLB Draft by the Florida Marlins
- Wilson made a name for himseff running coach Rush Propst’s offense as the starting QB at Hoover HS
- For his career, Wilson completed 615 of 978 passes for 8,170 yards and 78 TDs
- As a junior and senior, Wilson led the Bucs to the Class 6A state football championship at Legion Field
- He played in the championship game all three years in high school
- As a senior, he completed 314 of 467 passes (67 percent) for a state record 3,281 yards and 40 touchdowns. He threw only 10 interceptions all year.
- He was named to the Birmingham News’ Super Senior List in 2003-04
- He was a Class 6A Super All-State selection by the Birmingham News and Alabama Sports Writer’s Association (ASWA)
- He was the 2003 ASWA Player of the Year and the Montgomery Advertiser Back of the Year
- An honorable mention all-state pick as a junior, Wilson passed for more than 2,800 yards, with 27 TDs and 10 interceptions

- Parents are Parker and Susan Wilson
- He has three siblings, Ross, Marlo and Peyton
- His uncle, Thomas Wilson, played baseball at Livingston and the Cincinnati Reds, and was later a scout that helped the Reds build its 1990 World Series championship team
- His aunt, Julie Smelser Wilson, was a cheerleader at Alabama when Alabama head football coach Mike Shula was the starting QB
