David Robertson Named to Freshman All America Squad

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- University of Alabama freshman right-hander David Robertson (Tuscaloosa) was named to the 2005 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team on Wednesday. The team was chosen by the staff at Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
Robertson is the 12th different Alabama rookie to be named to the Freshman All-American team. Alabama head coach Jim Wells has had at least one freshman All-America selection in nine of his 11 years at the Capstone.
Robertson appeared in 32 games as a freshman and compiled a 7-5 (.583) record with eight saves and a 2.92 ERA. He ha 29 relief appearances and three starts for the Crimson Tide. The freshman worked 74 innings and allowed 48 hits, 28 runs and 24 earned runs, with 36 walks and 105 strikeouts.
He set the UH single-season freshman record with 105 strikeouts this season. The previous record was 98 strikeouts by Wade LeBlanc in 2004. Robertson also set the UH single-season record with 12.8 strikeouts per nine innings. The previous record was 12.6 by Alan Dunn in 1981.
In addition, Robertson's 105 strikeouts are the third-most in school history. He also ranked ninth in appearances and ninth in saves.
Robertson was also named to the 2005 Freshman All-SEC team as selected by the league's head coaches. He was also a Freshman All-SEC selection by SEBaseball.com and a Third-Team All-SEC pick by SEBaseball.com.

STARTING PITCHERS
RHP Mickey Storey, Florida Atlantic - Storey, a first team Atlantic Sun pick, had an incredible season as he posted a 10-1 record, 1.70 ERA and 7 saves as he posted 82 strikeouts and walked 23 in 95 1/3 innings. He also threw two complete games. He was named a third team Louisville Slugger All-American.
RHP Johnny Dorn, Nebraska - Named Freshman Pitcher of The Year and a first team pick in the Big 12 Conference, Dorn posted a 10-1 record and 1.86 ERA as he had one complete game and one save. In 87 innings, he fanned 72 batters and walked 19. Dorn also was a third team Louisville Slugger All-American.
LHP Ben Snyder, Ball St. - Snyder posted a 8-4 record, 3.81 ERA and fanned 70 batters with 16 walks. He also threw one complete game. He was named Freshman of the Year in the Mid-American Conference and was also a first Team Mid-Continent selection.
RHP Cory Riordan, Fordham - Named Rookie of The Year and a second team Atlantic 10 pick, Riordan posted a 10-3 record and 3.38 ERA with 4 complete games. He also fanned 51 batters and walked 19. He was ranked 13th in the NCAA stats with 10 wins.
RHP Donovan Hand, Jacksonville St. - The Freshman of the Year and first team Ohio Valley selection, he posted a 9-3 record and 2.29 ERA.
RHP Barry Enright, Pepperdine - Named Freshman of The Year and a second team West Coast Conference selection, Enright was 8-0 with a 3.36 ERA.
RHP Wes Roemer, Cal. St. Fullerton - The Freshman Pitcher of The Year in the Big West Conference, Roemer posted a 7-3 record and 3.36 ERA as he fanned 70 batters with only 13 walks.
RHP Wrandal Taylor, Prairie View A&M - Taylor, the Freshman of The Year in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, posted a 10-4 record, 4.06 ERA and fanned 64 batters with 25 walks as he threw one complete game with one save.
RHP David Robertson, Alabama - Named to the All-Freshmen Team in the Southeastern Conference, Robertson was third in the NCAA statistics with 13.2 strikeouts per game as he fanned 99 in 67 1/3 innings. He posted a 7-5 record, 2.93 ERA with 8 saves and fanned 105 batters while walking 34.
LHP J.P. Primus, North Carolina A&T - Primus was a first team Mid-Eastern Conference pick. He posted a 7-3 record, 3.25 ERA and registered 7 complete games. He also struck out 73 while walking 32.
RHP John Ely, Miami (Ohio) - A second team Mid-American pick, Ely posted a 6-1 record and 2.92 ERA with 4 complete games and one save as he fanned 70 batters with 13 walks.
LHP Pat McAnaney, Virginia - McAnaney had a 6-0 record, 1.80 ERA and fanned 28 batters with 7 walks.
RHP Robert Poutier, Virginia - Poutier had a 4-1 record, 0.45 ERA and 20 strikeouts with 14 walks.
LHP Stephen Locke, Florida - With a 2.45 ERA, Locke posted a 5-0 record with 29 strikeouts and 7 walks.
RHP Josh Collmenter, Central Michigan - A second team Mid-American Conference selection, Collmenter posted a 5-1 record, 2.34 ERA and two complete games as he struck out 53 batters and walked 13.
RHP Derek Cloeren, Northwestern St. - A third team Southland pick, he posted a 7-3 record, 3.48 ERA with two complete games. He also fanned 71 batters and walked 32.
LHP Eric Berger, Arizona - An honorable mention All-Pac-10 selection, Berger was 6-2 with a 3.84 ERA as he fanned 68 batters with 29 walks.
RHP Kyle Broughton, Northwestern St. - Broughton was a third team Southland pick as he posted an 8-1 record, 4.55 ERA and struck out 39 batters with 29 walks.
LHP Nick Schmidt, Arkansas - Named to the All-Freshmen team in the Southeastern Conference, Schmidt posted a 7-1 record, 2.45 ERA and one complete game as he fanned 61 batters and walked 29.
LHP Shaun Seibert, Arkansas - Seibert posted a 5-1 record, 2.82 ERA with one save as he struck out 52 batters with 24 walks.
LHP Robert Brant, Pittsburgh - A second team Big East selection, Brant ranked 24th in the NCAA statistics with an ERA of 2.07. He posted a 7-2 record with one save and fanned 68 batters while walking 23.
RHP Adrian Alaniz, Texas - Alaniz threw a no-hitter in a 4-0 victory over Oklahoma. He posted a 5-3 overall record with a 2.89 ERA with one complete game as he fanned 80 batters and walked 27.
LHP David Price, Vanderbilt - Price was ranked ninth in the NCAA statistics with 11.9 strikeouts per game and had fanned 92 batters in 69 1/3 innings. He had a 2.55 ERA but only a 2-4 record to show for his work.
LHP James Adkins, Tennessee - Adkins posted a 7-2 record, 2.66 ERA and tossed two complete games with 82 strikeouts and 34 walks. He was named to the All Freshmen Team in the Southeastern Conference.
LHP Cory Luebke, Ohio St. - Luebke had a 4-2 record, 3.00 ERA and three complete games this season as he struck out 37 batters and walked 13.
LHP Tim Erickson, Lamar - Erickson had a 4-0 record, 2.82 ERA and one save as he fanned 26 batters and walked 13.
RHP Michael Tavernier, Florida A&M - Named Rookie of the Year in the Mid-Eastern Conference, Tavernier was also a second team All-Mideastern pick as he posted a 6-6 record and 3.87 ERA with 71 strikeouts and 36 walks.
RELIEF PITCHERS
Lee Drinkard, Jacksonville St. - A first team Ohio Valley Conference selection, Drinkard was 5-2 with a 2.29 ERA and two saves. He fanned 30 batters and walked 17.
Bobby Bell, Rice - Bell posted a 2-0 record and a 2.38 ERA with 31 strikeouts and 11 walks.
Cole St. Clair, Rice - St. Clair had a superb 2.31 ERA with 49 strikeouts and only five walks with a 1-0 record and 2 saves.
Tony Watson, Nebraska - Watson posted a 4-1 record with a 2.12 ERA and 25 strikeouts.
CATCHERS
J.P. Arencibia, Tennessee - Named Freshman of The Year in the Southeastern Conference, Arencibia hit .323 with 11 homers, 11 doubles and 54 RBI.
David Golliner, Stetson - Named to the All-Freshmen Team in the Atlantic Sun, Golliner hit .352 with 12 doubles, 2 homers and 26 RBI.
Andrew Walker, Texas Christian - Walker hit .327 with 11 homers, 10 doubles and 36 RBI.
C/1B/OF Jay McConnell, Gardner-Webb - Named to the All-Freshmen Team in the Atlantic Sun, he hit .374 with 5 homers, 8 doubles and 34 RBI.
FIRST BASEMEN
Matt Rizzotti, Manhattan - Rizzotti, who is 6-foot-5 and weighs 230 pounds, was named Player of The Year and Rookie of The Year in the Metro Atlantic Conference. He hit .416 with 21 doubles, 9 homers and 57 RBI. He also was a third team Louisville Slugger All-American.
Justin Baum, Pacific - Named Freshman of the Year in the Big West Conference and a first team selection as well, Baum belted 17 homers and 15 doubles as he hit .332 with 45 RBI. He ranked 20th in the NCAA statistics in home runs per game and 22nd in slugging percentage.
Luke Hopkins, New Mexico St. - Hopkins was named Freshman of The Year in the Sun Belt as he hit .392 with 19 doubles, 14 homers and 79 RBI. He ranked sixth in the NCAA statistics in RBI per game. Also, he was a third team Louisville Slugger All-American.
Chris Johnson, Stetson - Named Freshman of The Year and a second team Atlantic Sun pick, Johnson hit .381 with 23 doubles, 8 homers and 52 RBI.
Mark Hallberg, Illinois-Chicago - A first team Horizon League selection, he hit .348 with 79 hits and 40 RBI. He posted a 23-game hitting streak and was ranked third in the NCAA statistics as the toughest to strikeout with nine in 211 at bats.
Aaron Grijalva, Liberty - Grijalva hit .388 with 8 homers, 10 doubles and 31 RBI as he swiped 8 bases.
Chad Flack, North Carolina - Flack hit .342 with 10 homers, 9 doubles and 34 RBI.
SECOND BASEMEN
Taylor Harbin, Clemson - A first team Atlantic Coast Conference pick, Harbin hit .360 with 28 doubles, 10 homers and 60 RBI. He only struck out 22 times in 250 at bats as he was a second team Louisville Slugger All-American.
Harbin ranked third in the NCAA statistics as far as doubles per game.
Jordan Pacheco, New Mexico - A first team Mountain West selection, Pacheco hit .408 with 15 homers, 17 doubles and 52 RBI for the Lobos. He also swiped six bases and only struck out 24 times in 233 at bats as he was named a third team Louisville Slugger All-American.
Josh Satin, California - Satin was a first team Pac-10 pick as he hit .358 with 14 doubles, 3 homers and 31 RBI as he also collected 7 stolen bases.
Trey Sutton, Southern Mississippi - The leadoff hitter for Southern Mississippi hit .346 with 6 homers, 15 doubles, 41 RBI and 11 stolen bases. He also ranked 30th in the NCAA statistics as far as runs per game with 69 in 55 games. He posted 28 multiple hit games.
Mike Folli, Buffalo - Folli, a second team Mid-American Conference pick, posted a 22-game hitting streak this season as he hit .348. He led the Bulls in hits (64), runs (41), triples (3), sacrifices (7) and walks (26) as he collected 3 homers and 18 RBI.
Sean McNaughton, Brigham Young - McNaughton hit .346 with 10 homers, 14 doubles and 37 RBI this season.
SHORTSTOPS
Bryan Cartie, McNeese St. - Named Freshman of The Year and a second team Southland Conference pick, Cartie hit .348 with 23 doubles, 29 RBI and 8 stolen bases. He also collected 73 hits and scored 51 runs.
Darwin Barney, Oregon St. - Barney was named Freshman Player of The Year in the Pac-10 after hitting .304 with 2 homers, 8 doubles and scoring 40 runs.
Joe Spiers, Hawaii - A second team Western Athletic Conference pick, Spiers hit .307 with 11 doubles, 21 RBI and swiped 31 bases. He also collected 71 hits and scored 45 runs with 3 triples and had 29 walks.
Sergio Miranda, Virginia Commonwealth - Named Rookie of the Year and a first team Colonial Conference pick, Miranda hit .360 with 3 homers and 34 RBI.
Josh Horton, North Carolina - Horton hit .370 with 10 doubles, 2 homers and 30 RBI with five stolen bases.
Frazier Todd, Rutgers - Todd hit .295 with 11 doubles, 8 homers, 31 RBI and swiped 17 bases.
THIRD BASEMEN
Beau Mills, Fresno St. - Named Freshman of The Year and a first team Western Athletic Conference pick, Mills hit .319 with 22 homers, 12 doubles and 63 RBI in addition to scoring 54 runs.
Brad Emaus, Tulane - The Freshman of The Year and first team Conference USA pick, Emaus hit .346 with 13 homers, 17 doubles and 52 RBI. He also scored 67 runs and collected 67 runs with five stolen bases.
Brett Lilley, Notre Dame - Named Rookie of The Year and a third team Big East Conference selection, Lilley hit .354. He was hit 25 times this season by pitches which ranked third nationally in the NCAA statistics. He also walked 34 times.
Curt Smith, Maine - Smith hit .359 with 12 doubles, 2 homers and 25 RBI. He also swiped 10 bases.
OUTFIELDERS
Corey Brown, Oklahoma St. - A first team Big 12 pick as well as conference Freshman Player of The Year, Brown hit .360 with 13 homers, 7 doubles and 45 RBI. He also swiped eight bases and scored 53 runs with 63 hits.
Billy Froehlick, Birmingham-Southern - Freshman of The Year and a second team Big South pick, Froehlick hit .339 with 6 homers and 25 RBI.
Joe Ercolano, Lehigh - Ercolano hit .420 with 3 homers, 10 doubles, 25 RBI and 4 stolen bases. His batting average was ranked 12th in the NCAA statistics.
Josh Vittek, Mt. St. Mary's - Named Rookie of The Year and a second team pick in the Northeast Conference, Vittek hit .358 with 5 homers.
Kelly Minissale, Oral Roberts - Minissale was named a first team Mid-Continent Conference selection as he hit .292 with 3 HR, 8 doubles, 21 RBI and 7 stolen bases.
Ryan Sontag, Michigan St. - Freshman of The Year and a second team Big Ten selection, Sontag hit .349 with 1 HR, 10 2B, 17 RBI and 8 stolen bases.
Steven Strausbaugh, Western Carolina - The Freshman of The Year in the Southern Conference hit .367 with 80 hits, 13 doubles, 12 homers and 51 RBI.
Tyler Henley, Rice - Henley was a first team Western Athletic Conference selection as he hit .298 with 6 homers, 10 doubles, 36 RBI and was hit 21 times in 55 games to rank 13th in the nation. He also swiped 12 bases.
Dan Richardson, Delaware - Named to the All-Rookie Colonial Conference team, Richardson hit .319 with 4 homers, 10 doubles and 22 RBI.
Julio Borbon, Tennessee - Named to the All-Freshman team in the Southeastern Conference, Borbon hit .374 with 3 homers, 7 doubles, 28 RBI and 7 stolen bases.
Seth Williams, North Carolina - Williams hit .308 with 12 homers, 7 doubles and 31 RBI.
Taylor Faul, McNeese St. - A second team Southland selection, Faul hit .350 with 6 homers, 13 doubles, 36 RBI and 8 stolen bases.
MULTIPLE POSITION ATHLETES
Joe Savery, Rice - Savery was named Player of The Year in the Western Athletic Conference as he hit .376 with 17 doubles, 5 homers, 41 RBI and 7 stolen bases. As a pitcher, he posted an 8-4 record, 2.49 ERA and hurled two complete games as he fanned 125 batters while walking 34. He also registered one save.
Matt Weiters, Georgia Tech. - Named Freshman of the Year and a first team Atlantic Coast Conference pick, Weiters hit .369 with 12 homers, 17 doubles and 72 RBI. As a righthanded pitcher, he posted a 3-2 record with 6 saves,
2.54 ERA and fanned 31 batters while walking 9.
Cole White, Army - Named Rookie of The Year and a first team Patriot League selection, White hit .327 with 7 homers, 4 doubles and 23 RBI. As a pitcher, he was 7-0 with a glistening 1.99 ERA as he fanned 31 batters and walked 11.
Damon Sublett, Wichita St. - The Freshman of the Year in the Missouri Valley Conference and a second team pick, Sublett hit .297 with 1 homer, 6 doubles,
26 RBI and 7 stolen bases. As a pitcher, he posted 8 saves with a 0.00 ERA and fanned 19 batters with 5 walks.
Nate Recknagel, Oakland - A first team Mid-Continent Conference selection, Recknagel hit .354 with 3 homers, 14 doubles and 22 RBI.
Sean Doolittle, Virginia - Doolittle hit .317 with 9 homers, 9 doubles and 42 RBI. On the mound, he was 1-0 with 2 saves, 1.06 ERA and 49 strikeouts.
Steffan Wilson, Harvard - Named Rookie of the Year and a first team Ivy League pick, Wilson hit .362 with 5 homers. As a pitcher, he posted five saves.
