Former Alabama Softball Catcher Plays for Team USA

Lacy Prejean, an All-SEC catcher for the Alabama Softball team from 2000-03, is playing for the United States Women’s Baseball Team in the on going IABF Women’s World Cup in Taipei, Taiwan.

Prejean made the U.S. team after a try out in Phoenix, Arizona. USA Baseball selects and trains the women's national baseball team. Prejean, who earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Alabama in May of 2003, was an all-SEC performer all four seasons with the Crimson Tide. She started in all but seven games during her career.

She was the starting catcher for UA and led them to the Women’s College World Series her freshman year (2000) and was there again in 2003. During her senior season she posted a career-best for homeruns (10), doubles (10), RBI (35) and hits (35). She hit an impressive .349 with five homeruns and 21 RBI during SEC play and was rewarded with First Team All-SEC honors.

This isn’t the Prejean’s first experience with the U.S. national team. The 2000 SEC Freshman of the Year was invited to participate in the 2002 USA National Team Camp following her junior season.

The USA women's national team placed second at the 2004 Women's World Series but won the Gold Medal at the 2004 Women's World Cup in Edmonton.
