Stephany Smith added another member to her staff by announcing that Keisha McClinic, who played for Smith at Middle Tennessee, has joined the Tide as its graduate assistant for the 2007-08 season.
McClinic replaces Ashley Earley, who filled the position for one season. McClinic’s duties at Alabama include organizing and implementing the program’s community outreach program and directing the Tide’s Kid’s Club.
McClinic, a 2005 graduate from MTSU with a degree in recreational therapy, has worked in the private sector for the past 18 months. While employed at PEMHS in Tampa, McClinic supervised psychiatric programs for children and adolescents during her tenure.
Prior to that, McClinic served as an assistant at MTSU during the 2004-05 season, helping the team to a 24-9 record that included a regular season and conference championship and an NCAA Tournament berth. She was responsible for the team’s film exchange during that season and assisted with the Blue Raiders’ summer camps.
As a senior in 2004, McClinic helped MTSU upset No. 12 North Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. She earned Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week honors once that year while setting the school’s single-season mark in steals with 112.
A team captain, McClinic earned MTSU’s Defensive Player of the Year award as a senior. In her junior campaign, she finished the year ranked fourth in the nation with a 3.5 steal-per-game average. McClinic finished having played the most games (120) in school history and was ranked second in Blue Raider history in steals (246).
While at MTSU, McClinic was extremely active on campus and in the community. She worked with the Special Olympics and served an internship with an organization devoted to assisting patients with spinal cord injuries. She also served as a coordinator for Middle Tennessee’s Basketball Camp for Adoloscents and was an active member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee.
A National Honor Society member, McClinic graduated from Eagles Landing High School in Stockbridge, Ga. She is the daughter of Brenda and Stephen McClinic.
She has a younger brother, Eric.
