TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?? The University of Alabama baseball team opened fall drills this week and with the new NCAA guidelines, head coach Jim Wells feels the team will benefit from more work during the next six weeks.
“The new rules makes things a lot better,” Wells said. “We have 45 days to get in 34 practices. Under the old format, we only had three weeks in the fall. So now we are getting 16 more practices with the team. I think this will help a lot.
“We have been involved in individual drills and strength and conditioning since the day after Labor Day. I think we have gotten some good work in to this point and I think we will only get better over the course of the next few weeks.”
The Crimson Tide will continue practice through Saturday this week, with intrasquad games set for Friday, Sept. 28 and Saturday, Sept. 29. Other scrimmage dates include Thursday, Oct. 4, Friday, Oct. 5, Tuesday, Oct. 9 and Wednesday, Oct. 10.
Alabama will not practice Saturday and Sunday of home football games and the team will take four days off for the University of Alabama’s fall break, which runs from Oct. 11-14.
The Tide will return to practice on Monday, Oct. 15 and the remaining scrimmage dates will be announced at that time.
Alabama generally practices each day beginning at 1:30 p.m. and all sessions are open to the public.
