TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama head softball coach Patrick Murphy announced the signing of Jackey Branham to a National Letter of Intent. Branham will come to Tuscaloosa from Troy, Mo., where she plays for Troy Buchanan High School.
"Along with being a great shortstop, Jackey is one of the top academic performers in this year's signing class." Murphy said. "She has a tremendous work ethic with a great upside to her entire softball game. We think she will be an outstanding addition to the great tradition of infielders at Alabama."
The shortstop has garnered numerous accolades on the field for her high school and club squads. For head coach Lance Richardson at TBHS the 5-9 infielder was named All-State in 2007 and was an all-academic selection in 2005-08.
For head coach Bob Furrer on her club team St. Louis Chaos, Branham led the Chaos to an ASA runner-up in 2008. Branham helped lead the Chaos to a USFA Championship in 2005, an AFA runner-up finish in 2004 and a AFA title in 2002.
On top of her accolades on and off the field, Branham is a community youth volunteer, a Cadet teacher and she also lettered in basketball where she was an all-conference performer in 2007.
Branham will have a familiar face join her at the Capstone as her club teammate Courtney Conley also signed an NLI and will join the Crimson Tide for the 2010 season.
