TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The women's basketball team (6-1) returns home after competing in the Junkanoo Jam in Freeport, Bahamas, to host the Alabama State Hornets (1-4) on Wednesday, Dec. 1, in Coleman Coliseum. Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m. CT.
Last time out, the Crimson Tide was able to hang on to an 82-80 triple overtime victory over Providence to finish in third place at the Junkanoo Jam. Senior Tierney Jenkins recorded another double-double, pouring in 21 points and hauling in 11 rebounds. Jenkins has hit the double-double mark in each of the Tide's first seven games. Four other players scored double figures, including freshman Kaneisha Horn with 12. Horn was able to knockdown the game-winning basket with just over a minute remaining, and was named SEC Freshman of the Week for her performances in Alabama's three games last week.
Alabama State enters the game having lost three in a row after defeating Mobile in its only home game of the season so far. Last time out, the Hornets battled UAB but fell just short, losing 65-58. Alabama State has one common opponent with the Tide, having faced Florida State to open the season. The Seminoles defeated the Hornets 89-39 in Tallahassee. Alabama State has struggled offensively this season, averaging just 54.8 points per game.
Alabama owns a 12-3 advantage in the all-time series with the Hornets, but it was Alabama State that came away with the 72-67 home victory last season. The Hornets have never defeated the Tide in Tuscaloosa.
