TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The women's basketball team (8-2) returns to the hardwood on Saturday, Dec. 18, when it hosts Belmont (4-5) at Coleman Coliseum. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. CT.
Saturday's meeting marks the eighth in the series where the Crimson Tide owns a slight 4-3 margin. Last year's meeting, however, went to the Bruins by a score of 69-67 in overtime. Alabama has won all three previous meetings played in Coleman Coliseum.
The Tide has had five days off from game play as its last contest took place on Sunday, Dec. 12, at Kansas. Alabama suffered its second loss of the season at the hands of the Jayhawks, 79-57, as the Tide could not get anything going offensively shooting just 26.6 percent. Despite the loss, senior Tierney Jenkins picked up her ninth double-double of the season in 10 games with 17 points and 10 rebounds. She leads both the Southeastern Conference and NCAA in double-doubles this year.
A familiar face for Alabama will be on the opposing sidelines Saturday as former Tide great Brittney Ezell returns to her alma mater as head coach of Belmont. Her Bruins are in the midst of a two-game win streak having picked up back-to-back wins against Tennessee State and Kennesaw State. Belmont is led by junior Haley Nelson, who averages team bests in points (12.3 ppg), rebounds (7.8 rpg) and blocks (2.2 bpg).
Season tickets for the regular season are on sale for $40 for the general public and $25 for the staff and faculty at the University of Alabama. Single-game tickets are on sale at the cost of $5 for adults and $3 for youth 18 and under. Tickets can be purchased online at RollTide.com or by calling the Alabama Ticket Office at 1.877.TIDETIX (843.3849).
