TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The women's basketball team (7-1) returns to the hardwood on Saturday, Dec. 4, when it hosts the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions (0-5) at 2 p.m. CT in Coleman Coliseum. The Crimson Tide looks to remain undefeated at home this season as it is going for its sixth victory in Tuscaloosa.
"We are going to continue working on us, as a basketball team, keeping the focus on our development as opposed to who we are playing," Alabama head coach Wendell Hudson said. "We have definitely progressed as a group, but there is still work to do as we get closer to the start of SEC play."
Alabama will look to build off its previous performance where the Tide dismantled Alabama State 80-31. Four Alabama players recorded double-figure points in the contest led by senior Tierney Jenkins' 15. Jenkins also recorded her eighth double-double of the season in as many tries with 16 rebounds. Freshman Shafontaye Myers had her breakout game against the Hornets scoring a season-best 13 points in addition to four rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals in 17 minutes of play.
"In the last game we were able to get more minutes to some people that have not had a chance to play as much, and we hope to do that in tomorrow's game as well," Hudson added. "They have earned the right to be out on the court, and getting them added playing time now will only give us a deeper bench for the future."
Arkansas-Pine Bluff is coming off an 80-48 loss at Southern Methodist where the Lady Lions shot 27.1 percent from the floor and were out-rebounded 49-34 on the glass. Three Arkansas-Pine Bluff players scored 10-plus in the loss led by a pair of 14-point performances by sophomore Lakendra Marsh and senior Laquisha Slaton. In addition, senior Jasmine Abrams chipped in 11 points and 11 rebounds for the game's only double-double.
Saturday's contest will be the first between Alabama and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
