TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama right hander Trey Pilkington was named the No. 10 prospect in the Florida Collegiate Summer League by Perfect Game USA, one of baseball's largest and most comprehensive scouting services, as announced Tuesday.
Pilkington appeared in eight games for the Sanford River Rats this season hurling 34.1 innings and posting a 3-3 record. Batters hit a lowly .250 against him while striking out 19 times. He helped propel the River Rats to a 28-13 second-place finish, just one win short of first place.
The Anniston, Ala., native was named to FCSL All-Star Team earlier this summer. In the All-Star Game, Pilkington played for the South All-Stars that posted a 2-0 win over the North All-Stars.
As a freshman this past season, Pilkington compiled a 1-0 record in five relief appearances for the Crimson Tide. He made his collegiate debut against Illinois-Chicago on Feb. 25 and worked a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. He pitched two scoreless innings in a 7-3 win over Jacksonville State on March 30 for his first collegiate win.
Alabama baseball begins preparations for the new season beginning Monday, Sept. 27 when it opens fall camp. Spring practice begins Jan. 28 leading up to the Tide's 2011 season.
