PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Women's tennis had a very successful showing at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships on Thursday as sophomore Mary Anne Macfarlane won her singles match, and seniors Courtney McLane and Taylor Lindseyadvanced in the doubles draw.
Macfarlane cruised to a 6-3, 6-4 win over Stanford junior Mallory Burdette to move onto the round of 16 in the main draw of the tournament. The victory was Macfarlane's fourth straight at the tournament.
"I put in a lot of hard work in the offseason, and it really paid off today," said Macfarlane. "I have great coaches and great teammates around me that have really helped to prepare me for matches like this. I just need to keep this going."
Later in the day, McLane and Lindsey followed up Macfarlane's win with an 8-3 victory of their own against Tennessee senior Natalie Pluskota and freshman Joanna Henderson.
"We played really well today," said Lindsey. "We just settled in and played our game. I thought we had a solid match overall. Courtney and I communicated really well. We are really looking forward to tomorrow and are really excited to be here."
